  • Modern design criteria for stainless steel welding consumables” by Jan Hilkes & Leo van Nassau

Lincoln Smitweld bv, the Netherlands, jhilkes@lincolnelectric.nl Key words: stainless steel weld metal structures, WRC1992 Diagram, Schaeffler Diagram, slag systems, welding characteristics, corrosion resistance properties, arc welding Abstract: The development of welding consumables for stainless steels has been reviewed in respect of the various product types and their chemical composition. The typical position of commercial grades has been projected in the leading weld metal structure diagrams as published by the Welding Research Council (WRC) and Schaeffler. The relation between the composition of slag forming components in the stick electrode covering and in flux cored wires has been linked to the specific welding characteristics of the finished welding consumable.

  • Something New in the Sub Arc World

Since 40 years of extensive use in the industry, the Submerged Arc process has acquired a robust reputation as a safe, reliable and high quality process. On the other hand, due to the lack of versatility of the equipment very often dedicated to a single job, this robustness was playing against the process’ ability to serve a wide range of procedures. The process was not considered to be a potential game changer in the industry’s quest to become more competitive and productive.
