IV LINCOLN ELECTRIC BOAT-RACE
• Together year after year
This annual event organized for distributors of welding equipment enjoys a growing popularity among the distributors and their families. This fact was made apparent from just observing the number of visitors wearing corporate clothing from previous years. The event took place during a long weekend from Thursday the 22nd to Sunday. The first day of the boat race was dedicated to organizational affairs. After checking in and unpacking, there
was a campfire in the evening along with a display of yacht drawings. Each of the teams participating in the race had to be made up from 3-5 people including the helmsman. This year, teams that did not have a certified helmsman were allowed to take part in the competition as they were allocated at random, an LEB employee with a proper licence. With
officialdom out of the way, everyone gathered by the blazing campfire to reminisce about the previous year’s struggles on water.
• Mind the boomAfter breakfast on the second day, the boat race was officially opened by Krzysztof Grzegorczyk, the Commercial Director and Zbigniew Pawłowski, the President. Both men are holders of a helmsman licence so they were able to join unlicenced crews. After taking to the yachts and debriefing the helmsmen, the Omega boats sailed out onto the lake. This year saw a record number of 29 boats and after a few short jitters the competition started at eleven o’clock. Favorable local, strong winds were available to those who could catch them and it was a close race to the very end for all five competitions. So absorbed were one crew that they didn’t they were a man overboard when their helmsman took a dip during a sharp turn. When they did eventually notice his absence and rescue him, he was eager to continue but
the rest of the crew decided it was better to steer for home and get him warmed up. While the adults were all hands on deck, the children were kept busy with organized activities. The older children participated in sailing school while the younger ones had the opportunilty to earn their Certificate of Sailing Enthusiasts.
By 5 o’clock it was all over and as with the previous year, the winner was declared to be the company Rywal RHL with its helmsman, Tomasz Stapf at the head. Second and third place went to the company Mecro from Lithuania, with Justinas Klusas and Povilas Klusas at the helm. After such a high, everybody was in need of relaxation and refreshment to prepare for
tomorrow’s President Cup. Everybody was looking forward to the captain’s evening, in the form of a much welcomed barbecue, where people listened to live music by „Załoga
dr Bryga” of Paweł Liszowski and friends. Bringing the evening to a close was the rock group „Mechanicy Szanty” although for many the evening lasted much, much longer.
• Under the rain
The rainy weather did not discourage any genuine sailors from taking part in the second competition. As many as twenty crews took part in the fight for the President’s Cup. Once again, victory went to Tomasz Stapf and the crew of Rywal RHC.

They received cups as well as valuable prizes in the form of branded equipment from Lincoln Electric. All competitors were awarded diplomas for participating in the boat race.
